Online Dating: Create a profile that attracts the right people!

The key to getting the most from online dating sites is to present yourself in an honest way that gets you better results, and wastes less of your time. There are ways to create a profile that will attract people you’re more likely to develop a connection with. The following 3 tips will help you do just that!

  1. Reveal yourself—Embrace your inner weirdo and put it out there! Be brutally honest about who you are. Don’t try to come across as what you think people want to see—that’s why you get contacted by people you have little in common with and don’t connect with. If you’re a homebody and quiet, there’s nothing wrong with that! If you like to go out all the time and party, there’s nothing wrong with that! Show your personality. Believe it or not, it’s the parts of yourself that you’re afraid to let people see that are most attractive because those parts make you unique. So many profiles say the same thing: I like going out but I also like to stay in; friends and family are important to me; I have a good sense of humor, and so on. That may all be true, but it doesn’t tell people very much about yourself, so you’re going to attract people who like your photos and think you sound cool.  Trust that the real you is interesting enough to catch the eye of someone great!
  2. Be patient– If you create a profile that is true to who you are, you may get fewer people contacting you, but you’ll get quality responses.  In the dating world, quality trumps quantity.  Quality means less cruddy dates, which can lead to dating burn-out. Dating takes time and patience. Mr. or Miss. Right won’t come along every day, but if you take the time to create a profile that shows who you are, he or she will show up and know it’s you they’re looking for.  If you don’t reveal yourself, how will he or she know that you are the right person for them?  The generic profile turns dating into a game of Craps, a roll of the dice.
  3. Be specific—Tell people what you’re looking for. I hear from a lot of people that they’re afraid to say they want a serious relationship, for fear of sounding desperate or because they don’t want to scare someone off. It’s not like you’re saying you want to jump into something serious, you’re just letting people know that you know what you ultimately want.  If what you ultimately want is a relationship, mention that in your profile, so you get like-minded responses.  If you ultimately want a hook up or a fling, mention that in your profile, so you get the responses you are looking for. That will lessen the amount of people who contact you hoping for something you have no interest in, whether that be sex or something serious.

To make online dating an effective tool, you’re going to have to know yourself, own who you are, and be brave enough to put yourself out there. Know you deserve what you want! Good luck!
